Download blacklist squidguard: How to configure and use the free URL redirector with Squid proxy
Blocklists make the work of the network administrator easier due to saving search time for domains that must be blocked. This way, a network administrator can download a blocklist containing specific domains and use them on their network.
Remember that this directory is within/var/lib/squidguard/db/. Therefore, as the beginning of the configuration file we already indicated that we will work with the database located in /var/lib/squidguard/db/.

Hi folks. Years ago I was using the Shallalist URL to download and build the blacklist database for SquidGuard in order to filter content. Now, this blacklist is no longer available. Is anyone aware of an alternative to Shallalist besides the French one?
Blacklists are updated every night using the script: /etc/cron.daily/update-squidguard-blacklistsThe script will download and merge all blacklists listed in /etc/squid/blacklists. This actions can take several minutes.

Blackweb is a project that collects and unifies public blocklists of domains (porn, downloads, drugs, malware, spyware, trackers, bots, social networks, warez, weapons, etc.) to make them compatible with Squid-Cache
I updated the script that was referenced above. It uses DNS to block sites, you can use the default lists (just realized it uses the same as PiHole), or create your own, also add custom whitelists & blacklists, and many other options if you want to get into unbound tagging.
Why send your traffic through the proxy server? There are a few reasons. One of them is to cache content. This means that the proxy server will save some content locally so that the next time a client requests that content, it will be served from the cache rather than going out to the internet to download it again.
So, adding audio/mpeg to the Block MIME Types box would block the downloading of mp3 files. Adding image/png to the Block MIME Types box would block the downloading of png images.
The versatile, open source proxy server Squid can be used together with the plug-in SquidGuard to set up a flexible blacklist proxy server. Together with a simple cron job and a shell script, the database of blacklisted sites is kept up to date. This article describes the process step-by-step of how to get up and running.
We have recently made our domain whitelist available to the public. It is for general production use, it contains no adult or piracy related sites, so should be suitable for most networks. It can be downloaded here
You mentioned squidguard, but ufdbGuard development went on where squidguard stopped 5 years ago. BEsides the classic URL filtering, ufdbGuard also detects SSH tunnels, VPNs and other solutions that try to circumvent a URL filter. ufdbGuard has the same configuration syntax as squidGuard and is Open Source Software. You can download it from or www.urlfilterdb.com.ufdbGuard works with both free and commercial databases.
Does anyone know how can i insert period (.) in the beginning of every word i posted below. Without typing period (.) one by one in every word's beginning. Im trying to deny blacklist file thru squid.
In previous posts we discussed how to install Squid + squidGuard and how to configure squid to properly handle or restrict access requests. Please make sure you go over those two tutorials and install both Squid and squidGuard before proceeding as they set the background and the context for what we will cover in this post: integrating squidguard in a working squid environment to implement blacklist rules and content control over the proxy server.
In this tutorial I will show you how to integrate the blacklists provided by Shalla Secure Services to your squidGuard installation. These blacklists are free for personal / non-commercial use and are updated on a daily basis. They include, as of today, over 1,700,000 entries.
Installation of the whole blacklist package, or of individual categories, is performed by copying the BL directory, or one of its subdirectories, respectively, to the /var/lib/squidguard/db directory.
Of course you could have downloaded the blacklist tarball to this directory in the first place, but the approach explained earlier gives you more control over what categories should be blocked (or not) at a specific time.
If for some reason you need to enable a category that has been blocked in the past, remove the corresponding directory from /var/lib/squidguard/db and comment (or delete) the related acl in the squidguard.conf file.
On occasions you may want to allow certain URLs or domains, but not an entire blacklisted directory. In that case, you should create a directory named myWhiteLists (or whatever name you choose) and insert the desired URLs and domains under /var/lib/squidguard/db/myWhiteLists in files named urls and domains, respectively.
Now Save changes and press Download ACLs again to download and reconstructthe list with only the selected categories. This will take roughly the same amountof time as the first fetch as the adult alone section is 15 MB.
The same issue here. We have 3 pfsense servers and squid/squidguard stopped to work correctly in all of them. There are lots of PHP error/reports when we trying to reconfigure them. We just rollback because that new update make impossible to work with the servers.
Here i am explaining how to integrate SquidGuard and Lightsquid in a pfsense Squid Server. Earlier we have published an article about the how to setup a proxy with pfSense Firewall distribution. as we know SquidGuard is a URL redirector used to use blacklists with the Squid. Squid can perform better with SquidGuard. LightSquid is one of reporting package available for pfsense. lightsquid is a replacement for MYSAR and SARG.
SquidGuard is a URL redirector software, which can be used for content control of websites users can access. It is written as a plug-in for Squid and uses blacklists to define sites for which access is redirected. SquidGuard must be installed on a Unix or Linux computer such as a server computer. The software's filtering extends to all computers in an organization, including Windows and Macintosh computers.
The fundamental flaw associated with Blacklists is that because the web is a constantly changing environment the Blacklists must be constantly updated. There are a number of interested parties on the Internet who maintain Blacklists (out of personal interest), and so our approach has been to choose to use one of the Blacklist consolidator engines. To facilitate the regular updating of our Blacklist, I wrote a small script that can be regularly executed; which downloads the list and installs it.
ClarkConnect version 1.x does not contain any method for automatically downloading new squidGuard Blacklists. Also, the squidGuard website itself does not offer a script to perform this task, and so it was necessary for me to write a script.
SquidGuard is a free and open-source application, which is basically used as a URL redirector software, which we can use to managing access to websites. Squidguard uses blacklists to control access to websites & define the website to which URL has to be redirected. We have the option to create a custom blacklist or can use one of many available on the internet. SquidGuard can be installed on Linux as well as Unix.
The package to install SquidGuard is not available with default Centos/RHEL repos, we need to enable the EPEL repository on our system to install squidguard. Install EPEL repository the following command, applicable to you,
greetings, i installed squidguard in my work center and configured it. when I run the command squidGuard -b -d -C all, the whole process starts without problems and at the end it shows the following error:
I have reviewed everything again and searched for topics in google and I recheck the configuration and I keep getting the same error. Could you explain what happens? here I show you a summary of the squidguard.conf configuration:
The squid server acts as an intermediary between a Web browser and Web server. As a proxy, it receives a URL request from the browser, connects to the server on behalf of the browser, downloads content, then provides it to the browser. It also saves the content to disk so it can provide it more quickly to another browser if the same URL is requested in the near future. Generally, this leads to more efficient utilization of an Internet connection and faster response times for Web browsers.
